My search for a fine pair of “smart casual” or “dressed up” shorts has come to an end. I had been looking for them all the spring (+ last summer) but did not really find anything that would have felt like the right choice to get.

Few weeks ago I was talking with Hugh, a good friend of mine and the owner of Korean based Finealta, a company that is specialized in trouser making. At that particular time I was actually looking for a new pair of cargo pants and browsing the website at the same time as I saw their new shorts, the “compassion” model.

The shorts are tailored from lightweight and stretching cotton oxford and comes in 4 different colors, all inspired by the Mediterranean Sea. As said on the website, these tailored shorts are just ideal for your summer vacations. When I got these on my hands, the first feeling was pretty positive. The rise of the waist is just optimal (as in all of Finealta trousers) but not that low than in many other options on the market and the legs are nicely tapered and fitted. In terms of color I chose to go with the beige as I think it’s the most versatile one and easy to combine with different shades of blue and brown but that goes nicely also with orange or purple for example.

The shorts are all made in Seoul, Korea. I’m not gonna go into the construction details as the facts how many stitches per square inch there is for example here but rather one thing I personally like a lot and that is worth of note in Finealta trousers is the attention to details as the colored buttons or the light blue paisley printed lining of these shorts for example and finishing, that is always done by care.

There are people who say that shorts should never be worn in town (as there are people who are still saying “no brown in town”) and that shorts should only be worn in the most casual occasions or on the beach. I disagree. I think that nicely tailored and fitted pair of shorts as these paired with a button-up or a polo shirt are a great choice to go on for walk in the park or sit by a terrace on a hot and sunny summer day. Some might even pair them with an unconstructed and unlined blazer in some instances.

Some might think that 169$ is a bit high price for a pair of shorts. But one thing that made me to pull the trigger (In addition to that my previous Finealta trousers fit me perfectly) was the fact that the profits made from the sales of these shorts will be donated to Evangelical Christian orphanages in Cambodia. So in this case you can also make some good while spending money on your new pair of trousers. As said by Finealta, are you ready to share some love?
