White sneakers are a summer essential. One sure thing that tells spring and summer are approaching is the fact that brands and stores are continually bringing out loads and loads of new sneaker models. Today taking a look of selection of white sneakers for this spring and summer.
In terms of white and minimalist sneakers one remarkable point is their versatility. They are appropriate and suitable for many different kind of styles. No matter if you are a #menswear-aficianado, friend of vintage clothing, ivy-inspired dresser or one of those guys who are at the moment attracted by that Scandinavian minimalism – you can easily match white sneakers into your wardrobe.
White sneakers with suit
Earlier (white) sneakers were meant for weekends and workouts. Nowadays sneakers have become suitable and totally acceptable to wear not just with denim or shorts but as well with for example more dressed-up cotton slacks or even suits. A classic sneaker is actually a shoe you can wear with everything from weekday suits to weekend shorts and rolled-up chinos. And when it comes to sneakers and summer there is one color above others. And that is white. A crisp white sneaker ennobles any clothing.
Dressing down your suit is definitely not the easiest style move to pull off. And there are people who still say that one should never wear suit with sneakers for example. In my opinion suit with sneakers can be a great combination. If you have the right pieces and right balance.
Keep it simple
If you are wearing sneakers with suit, make sure that your footwear is balanced with your clothing. My recommendation is to go for relatively streamlined low-top sneakers. High-tops can work in some cases but it much safer to choose a sleek and minimalistic pair.
Dress according the environment and occasion
Remember that you can’t wear sneakers with a suit whenever you want. If you are going to for example a funeral, wedding or a formal business meeting, break out your leather dress shoes. Your full attire should always match the traditional dress code as well as the spirit of the situation you’ll be attending. Wearing sneakers with a suit is a good way to freshen up a traditional style, but you just need to choose the right place to do it.
Choose the right suit – remember the balance
Forget sneakers if you are wearing fine wool fabrics, chalk stripes or heavily constructed power suits. Instead go for materials like cotton or linen. And choose a suit with lightweight construction. In terms of details favor casual options such as patch pockets and 3-roll-2 buttoning. In terms of colors light shades as well as, classic gray (both dark and light) and various shades of blue will always work.
Casual summer with classic sneakers
Of course sneakers are in principle a casual choice. In my opinion hey are at their best when combined with denim, cotton slacks or shorts. With well-fitted t-shirts or button-ups with rolled-up sleeves. If I got to choose, I would wear white canvas or leather sneakers with a crispy white t-shirt and light colored denim or shorts for most of summer.
In this category there really is no rules to follow. One can hardly go wrong with simple white sneakers and jeans or shorts.
Sum up – 5 white sneakers for spring 2016
And as a conclusion five pairs of white sneakers to check out for this spring and summer. Just remember two things. First of all, the trick with white sneakers is that you need to keep them white. Secondly, forget those “dress trainers”. If you dress shoes, buy dress shoes. If you want sneakers, buy sneakers. There is no successful hybrids between these two.
The Achilles by Common Projects is a modern classic – most of all thanks to the minimalist design and superior made in italy -construction. There are multiple versions available but the white is in my book the most versatile one. Pair these with a crispy, fitted cotton suit and a white soft collar button-up.
Italian Buttero is mostly known for their tanino sneakers. For the second season in a row they have now come up with a personal looking runner model. A suitable option for those looking for something a bit different. I would not wear these with suit but with some dark blue denim and a white t-shirt these would make a great combination.
Jack Purcell is a classic pretty much the same way than Superga – it can be easily worn with almost anything. This is a good option for those who do not feel comfortable paying over 100 or over 300 euros for a pair of sneakers.
Adidas’s Stan Smith is a classic. Simple white leather sneaker made by the company since the 1960s that was renamed according the American tennis player in 1973. This spring Adidas in collaboration with Swedish Sneakers n Stuff launched a so-called Adidas Originals Shades of White pack, a set of three models featuring a very nice version of Stans. My personal favorite. Simple and casual. Yet refined and chic. Can be worn with cotton or linen suits as well as with denim. They are at their best after you have used them properly for a while. And when they start to look like you have worn them properly. And if you want to make them white and clean again, just throw them into washing machine.
