Wednesday inspiration - Gray double-breasted suit

When it comes to suits, a gray double-breasted suit in mid-gray wool or flannel is one of my personal favorites. Today taking a look of how to wear this kind of a iconic piece and how to make it work with ease. By this post I am also bringing back the weekly inspiration-collages. From now on every Wednesday there will be a collage build around one highlighted piece to draw inspiration from. And I am starting - as said - from the classic gray double-breasted suit.

Double-breasted suit - shades of gray

Darker tone gray wool suit is staple for fall and winter season. But there is definitely no reason why one couldn't wear one during the spring season. By the right fabric and texture choices even a mid-gray suit can be worn almost around the year.

The suit chosen here is made by Italian G.Abo Napoli. Wide lapels and patch pockets make it to stand out of the crowd and therefore it is better to keep the outfit otherwise restrained and toned down. Even pocket square can be left out. One thing worth noticing when building an outfit is the importance of the shirt. In my opinion one can't really go wrong by choosing a basic, plain white shirt. Not if you pay enough attention to choosing the right shirt. Make sure the collar type is right for you and that the shirt fits you properly. My personal preference is a wide-spread soft collar shirt made of lightweight oxford fabric. Easy to wear with a suit and tie but works as well with distressed denim or even with shorts in the summer.

Due to the rain and lousy weather make sure you have an overcoat that keeps you warm and dry. Thanks to the water repellent gore-tex material together with a lightweight down lining the Laminar coat by Herno is a perfect garment for anything winter or the upcoming spring can throw at you. As I personally prefer suede over calf leather regarding rainy days, I would pick a pair of  Brunswick captoe oxfords made by Alfred Sargent to A Fine Pair of Shoes to complement the ensemble. Finally a navy blue Morris briefcase by Mismo, restrained suede bracelet from Tom Ford and IWC Portuguese to your wrist - and you are all set.
