Lardini S/S ´14 @ Pitti Uomo 84

Finally, after two weeks traveling around after Pitti I can get started with some short reviews of what was seen during the fair and what will be seen next spring. I’ll start the series with Lardini that I was fascinated by in January and that this time came up with maybe the most inspiring collection in my book.

Chic and comfortable

Chic and comfortable is probably the best definition to describe the S/S ´14 collection by Lardini. As earlier, there’s a huge amount of experimentation and versatility with different fabrics, patterns and special treatments featuring for example some garment-dyed and two-tone jackets, soft shapes and silhouettes, simple earthy colors, attention to details and innovative implementations of classic garments.

One of the most striking pieces of the collection is definitely the “towelling” range which includes not just polo & t-shirts and knitwear but also a sponge jacket that is proposed in dinner jacket version with mohair revers. One of my absolute favorites, even though it might be hard to find occasions to wear it and even harder to pull it off.

Jute garments and Gunny Jacket

One of the new elements of the collection is the “Jute garments” that are made by using natural, biodegradable and recyclable fibres to make them even more ecological. One the key pieces of the collection and totally new way of interpretation is the “Gunny jacket” which in fact is made by reproducing the fabric used for coffee bales on industrial scale and characterised by a graphic design that is always in a different position, so that two jackets are never identical. This jacket really is a perfect example of the “Lardini man goes Eco” phrase which is one of the main themes of the whole collection.

 I see, I feel, I speak

As said by themselves “Lardini SS 2014 collection proposes a daring experimentation of fabrics and shapes, revolutionising received concepts, reinterpreting tradition and overturning perspectives. Noble fibres take on a raw look, while retaining their soft hand; weaves become noticeable while guaranteeing a comfortable elegance.”
