Tombolini S/S ´14 @ Pitti Uomo 84

Being my personal favorite for the last two Pitti Uomo fairs, I was definitely looking forward to see Tombolini and their collection this time as well.

In general it should be said that for every season (this one not being an exception) Tombolini comes up with one of the most comprehensive collections covering not only business, formal, casual or some “trendy” parts of their line-up at the booth but the whole selection in a very compatible way.

Even though it means that the overall look stays pretty much the same from one season to another there’s also some new bites keeping the presentation fresh and crispy every single time.

Business & Zero Gravity

One of the key pieces in the collection and worth to mention is the “business blazer” which silhouette and qualities are designed to serve the needs of a travelling businessman. The blazer is cut with a special textile that boasts different virtues as water repellence, anti-bacterial and perspiring properties. The fabric of the jacket which features a series of unusual details as the cigar-case or the newspaper holder and the key holder, also matches with the functionality of the model. The lightweight construction, 3-roll-2 button stance, patch pockets and soft shoulders also makes it easy to wear in the most casual combinations as well.

Dream & Flying

This time Tombolini also had some women designs presented with their dream and flying jackets which gave a nice touch and a bit “different” view than anyone else at the fair. As usual the pieces were refined but still informal, featuring a lot of cotton and wool fabrics garment dyed in a multicolor palette in terms of the the dream line and bit more agile spirit embodied by the jersey fabrics, matchless fit and deconstructed jackets in the flying line which in terms of colors was ruled basically by the different hues of classic blue.

Zero Gravity - “Underwater”

For next spring and summer Tombolini has take their concept of lightweight garments, the so called “Zero Gravity” line - where "the unmistakeable softness revisits the sartorial notion with the lightness of a caress" - again one step further by creating garments mixed of wool, cashmere, silk and cotton that dress the body weighting only 300 grams. A jacket made of  "ice wool", which fibres guarantees the same performance as some technical sportive textiles: waterproof and resistant to the thermal equilibrium variations, is a total “stand out” piece of collection.

During the fair I also had the pleasure to go and see the video installation “underwater” that was about to present and show Tombolini’s new discoveries for the Zero Gravity line, featuring Sabrina Brazzo, artist and étoile of "Teatro alla Scala".

After the video presentation the president of the company Marcello Tombolini also impressively demonstrated the features and qualities of the mentioned “ice wool" Zero Gravity jacket.
