Time to continue Pitti Uomo reviews with the collection by Italian The GIGI for spring and summer 2016. A collection that takes inspiration from the "platonic solids" - earth, water, air, fire and quintessence" - and combines graphisms from all over the world with the sartorial family tradition.
The GIGI SS16 - Platonic solids
- The sand of the desert
- The deep blue of the ocean
- The clear sky
- The red of the African sunset
- The black of the quintessence
That's what the collection by The GIGI for next spring and summer is about.
According to Pierluigi "Gigi" Boglioli the collection is a personal interpretation of emotions occured during his trips around the world that are then translated into a collection. The colors from different lands and places are decorated by graphisms that capture the sensations from his those journey's - featuring for example Navajo Patterns, the geometries of Marrakech, the Shoowa embroideries and Kuba cloths.
In other words the collection presents loud patterns such as wide and visible vertical stripes, geometrical prints and embroideries combined with classic silhouettes in suits, single-pleated trousers and double-breasted topcoats. As is characterized by The GIGI - the selection is a play between modern trends and interpretations combined with classic menswear and personal vision.
The GIGI SS16 - total looks
One thing that kind of bothers a little while going around the booths at Pitti Uomo is that on many stands the clothes are hanging from the racks. This is of course necessary as the space is limited and not every brand can have a big booth with mannequins. So then you just have to take a look at the stuff and in some cases you can of course even try on the clothes. Unfortunately most of times that chance does not suit me as most of garments presented come in sizes 50 that is too big for me.
However The GIGI has tackled this "problem" by releasing "look book" featuring full looks showcasing the selection and garments presented at Pitti. As the pics taken by me do not really make justice to the garments - these pictures will better help you to get an overall understanding of what's coming up for next spring and summer. Below are some of the "SS16 collection preview"-pics featuring pieces from the collection. If you want to see more - check out their facebook-page. The first ensemble - white cotton-linen suit combined with white sweatshirt - is a perfect example of bringing together casual elements and classic Italian tailoring tradition.
