Checked suit - made-to-measure by Vaatturiliike Sauma
The suit pictured is a made-to-measure piece by Sauma. When I ordered it I wanted something a bit different from my usual range of suits. So I chose lightweight wool fabric by Fratelli Tallia di Delfino in "greyish blue" with subtle brown / light blue over check.
In terms of construction the jacket of the suit is lightweight, unlined and unstructured. In addition it features a handmade pleated shoulder-line. Two patch pockets make the jacket a bit more casual and appropriate to wear as a separate as well. With trousers I chose to go with no belt-loops and took side-adjusters instead. I wanted double-pleats and 5,5cm cuffs. The leg opening is quite narrow, around 16,5 centimeters.
In my opinion a suit like this - featuring a subtle pattern - is very versatile and suitable for almost any kind of occasions. Only if the event has a strict and formal dress code, you need to go for something else. If you wear a white shirt, blue tie and black shoes it is even board room approved. If you replace the button-up with summery pullover shirt and black oxfords with suede loafers, you have a perfect outfit for a relaxed after-work dinner.
This time I went with a striped button-down shirt (unbuttoned) and dark blue wool-silk grenadine tie. In addition I chose a woolen floral printed pocket square and brown calf leather double-monks. One might claim this is something in between of those two options described above. And finally a little splash of color in a form of a scarf is appropriate, even though one could manage without as well. And if you want to bring some restrained boldness to your business outfit, choose a casentino overcoat.
