People behind the Industry (part II) - Michael Hill

The second part of DressLikeA series “People behind the Industry” is about Michael Hill, the Creative Director of Drake’s London - one of most well-known and probably my favorite maker of men’s accessories. I had the pleasure to meet Michael at Pitti Uomo last January and recently he was kind enough to take his time to answer few questions to help you figure out who is this man at the moment running the traditional brand of Drake’s. 1) “Who are you”? Michael Hill, Creative Director for Drake's. I went to the London College of Fashion, which is where I got my formal academic training. Before that, however, I worked at a few silk mills in Italy and at Drumohr, all of which...

#menswear blogs I follow

Every now and then I'm asked what blogs I follow myself or that do I have some specific favorites. Of course I do follow and read a lot of other blogs (which thanks to tumblr is pretty easy nowadays). I decided to pick out a list I wrote a while ago for other purposes and then updated it a bit. The blogs mentioned are not listed in any particular order based on who I may value the most or whatever. Some blogs I follow a bit more and some little less frequently. Isaia F/W ´13 @ Pitti Uomo 83

For next fall Isaia has created couple of different color stories and come up with pieces that are not just subtle and solid. A lot of large scale patterns and really surprising and inspiring use of fabrics and textures. The first part of the collection relies on blue & green and includes pieces such as the blue suit with a bold green windowpane pattern, blue double-breasted chalkstripe suit, blue / grey checked peacoat and my personal favorite, the grey three-piece windowpane suit...

Boglioli F/W ´13 - Pitti Uomo 83

Inspired by the British history and tradition Boglioli F/W collection this time finds the inspiration from Great-Britain, combining Boglioli’s contemporary look with British elegant and sophisticated heritage. ’ All about materials The thing that draws attention when going through the collection is definitely the innovative use of materials, fabrics and different treatments. There’s a lot of tweed (British and Irish), knickerbocker fabrics with tartan, prince of wales and check patterns, scribbled wool, over-dyed velvet and carded silk, printed corduroy, tweed cotton and of course cashmere.   ETON suit Eton is the newest addition to collection of Boglioli suits, named after one the most famous and historic British colleges. Eton suit is made of carded flannel that during the making process undergoes...

"About colors - what goes with what?"

How to know what color goes with what. And what color it compliments it with. How to use colors in a right way? A while ago I read a text on Put This On which handled the questions above. Because I feel Derek in that article pretty much brought up all the basic points there is to say about combining colors, I decided to share his text with you. I advise you to read also the articles that are linked to the text. You can find a link to the original text from below. Coordinating colors "Deciding on whether any particular combination of colors in an ensemble works or not is probably best left to on-the-spot judgment. Style is, after all,...
