MAN 1924 fall and winter 2014

Got today in the mail a catalog showcasing the collection for this fall and winter by Spanish MAN 1924, a company run and made known by Mr. Carlos Castillo and his partners. The garments by MAN 1924 combine the feeling of British elegance and Italian nonchalance and bring together classic, sartorial style with casual wear and one might say even a bit sporty touch. The pieces shown in the looks are put together in a way that shows the well balanced mix of “both worlds” and they at the same time demonstrates that these garments can be combined for many different occasions without having to think too hard. Family business since 1924 The original brand called MAN was founded in Madrid...

Shawl collar jackets - Inspired by THE GIGI

Shawl collars are mostly associated with either knitwear (shawl collar cardigans) or formal wear (tuxedos). Sometimes it is used in military inspired coats but rarely seen as a feature of sport coats or "classic" overcoats. Today taking a look of something a bit different. Last January at Pitti Uomo, Italian "newcomer" The GIGI presented their collection for this fall and winter season (read more about the collection here) and as I mentioned then the use of shawl-collars that was repeated both in blazers and outerwear was definitely a stand-out-detail that absolutely aroused my interest. Recently pieces from The GIGI were featured at Japanese online magazine bronline.jp. The use of shawl collar brings a nice touch of casualness and coziness to otherwise...

Sartoria Rossi F/W 2014

Sartoria Rossi is an Italian manufacturer with a - one could claim - different philosophy in terms of classic menswear than many others. Rossi is a company that combines well made and quality clothing - pieces normally more suitable for business and other formal occasions - with bold prints such as stripes and windowpanes and bright colors. Sartoria Rossi is still a relatively unknown company that started its business and tradition as tailors in the 1970s. Family business was established in Val di Chiana, between Arezzo and Siena in the heart of Tuscany, same place where head production of the garments is still located.   The look book of company’s fall and winter collection shows a lot of bright and bold...

DLA - October inspiration

As it’s already October one can say that the fall is eventually now here and winter is starting to be pretty near. Days are getting shorter and the amount of light decreases significantly. On the other hand it means that one can get the overcoats and more heavier suits & sport coats from the closet and start to play with layers again.  Starting the week with a few things and pics that I’m personally inspired by and enthusiastic at the moment. When it comes to ties one can pretty easily go with basic rotation of silk ties (including knit ties, grenadines and shantung for example) through the year. But having some seasonal additions is a good and easy way to make...

(no title)

DLA x Berg&Berg - Tie your tie sneak peek I wrote earlier shortly about the new f/w collection by Berg&Berg (check the post here). Recently Mathis and Karin were kind to send a few items from the collection for a review. The ties I selected from the collection, including some cashmere, wool and grenadine & shantung silk are shown in the pics above. As you can see, I ended up with pretty basic and toned down choices - both in terms of patterns and colors. Will soon come up with few points how to combine different colors and materials and “how to tie your tie”. All of these have already seen more or less use, for more detailed pics check...
