People behind the Industry (part II) - Michael Hill

The second part of DressLikeA series “People behind the Industry” is about Michael Hill, the Creative Director of Drake’s London - one of most well-known and probably my favorite maker of men’s accessories. I had the pleasure to meet Michael at Pitti Uomo last January and recently he was kind enough to take his time to answer few questions to help you figure out who is this man at the moment running the traditional brand of Drake’s. 1) “Who are you”? Michael Hill, Creative Director for Drake's. I went to the London College of Fashion, which is where I got my formal academic training. Before that, however, I worked at a few silk mills in Italy and at Drumohr, all of which...

Tombolini F/W ´13 @ Pitti Uomo 83

Last but totally not least… As it’s about five weeks before I’ll be heading to Florence again it’s a good time to come up with the last collection review from Pitti Uomo 83. “Poetry in the fabrics selection and lightness in style” The new era Tombolini is bringing up and that was already seen in the S/S ´13 collection is light. The lightness is the main concept especially for the Tombolini “Zero Gravity” line that features suits and jackets manufactured by a new technique by Tombolini and with fabrics such soft silks and wools that are extra light (weight in grams so light that you could say is almost weightless) but still hold you in a warm embrace. The “Flying” line that features sport coats made for...

Tibitie accessories @ Sauma

A while ago when visiting at Sauma I got to take a look a new addition to their selection, Tibitie accessories. Tibitie is a Japanese based company that has been specializing in small pieces of “lapel accessories” since 2009. All the pieces are handcrafted in Japan and I personally (as a friend of paying attention to small details) enjoyed to see the very detailed finishing and the craftsmanship put into these pieces. Lately the popularity of this kind of lapel accessories has been growing and growing and there’s been very many kind of interpretations and applications of these such as felt flowers or even using the silk knots as your “lapel pin”. In terms of aesthetics and usability “tibities” goes to the top...

#menswear blogs I follow

Every now and then I'm asked what blogs I follow myself or that do I have some specific favorites. Of course I do follow and read a lot of other blogs (which thanks to tumblr is pretty easy nowadays). I decided to pick out a list I wrote a while ago for other purposes and then updated it a bit. The blogs mentioned are not listed in any particular order based on who I may value the most or whatever. Some blogs I follow a bit more and some little less frequently. I also may have forgot some from the list. However I respect and appreciate everyone who keeps posting and so gives me (and everyone else) new inspiration every day....

Eton shirts F/W ´13 @ Pitti Uomo

“Tradition of excellence” Two more F/W ´13 collection reviews from Pitti Uomo 83 left before starting to get ready for the next fair in June and collections for next spring and summer. The first one of these two left is Swedish Eton shirts. Eton is probably one of the best known shirt brands in Finland and in the whole Scandinavia. This is easily explained by the fact that there are very many retailers that have Eton in their selection but also by the reason that there’s not many Scandinavian manufacturers in the menswear-scene that could really compete with the brands coming from Italy, Great-Britain, US or Japan for example. However Eton is one of them. If I need to find one...
